Amahoro Stadium is Rwanda’s national stadium and the country’s largest multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue, located in the Remera district of Kigali. Originally opened in 1986, the stadium underwent a major reconstruction project between 2022 and 2024, transforming it into a modern international-standard facility. The renovated stadium officially reopened in 2024, featuring upgraded infrastructure and a seating capacity of approximately 45,508 spectators.
The venue serves as the home stadium of the Rwanda national football team (Amavubi) and hosts international football matches, athletics competitions, rugby fixtures, concerts, cultural events, national celebrations, and corporate functions. Amahoro Stadium features a modern football pitch, improved spectator seating, VIP hospitality areas, media facilities, retail spaces, restaurants, accessibility services, and advanced event infrastructure.
Beyond its sporting role, Amahoro Stadium holds significant historical importance as a site associated with the 1994 Rwandan genocide, where thousands of people sought protection during the conflict. Today, it stands as a symbol of unity, resilience, and Rwanda’s growing presence in international sports. The stadium remains one of East Africa’s premier venues for major sporting events, entertainment, and public gatherings. Its modern facilities continue supporting athletes, visitors, and organizers while enhancing Rwanda’s reputation as a destination for world-class sports and entertainment experiences.
